Spelling/Vocab.
- Students will copy the following words in their Spelling/Voab. notebooks skipping 3 lines between each: basked, buffeted, horizon, quay, surf, swell, seal, swooped.
- Then we will take the Spelling Pretest for the story Seal Surfer. This weeks word all add endings to change the word like dropping the e and adding ed or ing or doubling a consonant.
- We will begin by looking at the picture on Pg. 213. Afterwards, students will find the words that describe people in the sentence.
- Next, we will discuss what is a pronoun based off of those sentences. Students should be able to explain that a pronoun is a word that can take the pace of one or more nouns in a sentence.
- Lastly, students will make a list of pronouns in their notebook including: singular - I, you, he, she, it and plural - we, you, they.
- Students will practice complete Pg. 214 #'s 1-18 during class. Students will write a poem about about something they and a friend like to do outdoors. They will try to use both singular and plural subject pronouns in their writing. They will share them in class the following day.
- We will begin to read the story Seal Surfer Pg. 47 - 50 together.
- Students will make a list of characters in the story in their notebook. We will also pause every few pages to practice summarizing what we have read. On one side in the notebook students will write Summarize and the other page the student will write Characters.
- Students will take some time comparing/contrasting the characters telling how they are alike and how they are different.

Spelling/Vocab.
- Students will learn the different rules for the Spelling words this week. We will sort all the words under the spelling patterns this week. Students will copy these in their notebook.
- Students will complete WB Pg. 23 using the definitions for the vocabulary words that they came up with this week.
- Students will complete WB Pg. 29 to practice Spelling words.
- Students will review the poems they created yesterday. We will identify what makes up a poem. Students will understand that a poem has the following qualities: often rhymes, has a rhthym, uses figurative language (like onomatopoeia - simile- metaphor-hyperbole-alliteration-imagery, etc.) and brings an image to mind.
- Students will listen to each classmates "poems" and identify if they meet our standard for what makes up a poem. We will also work on improving other elements of the poem. Students will rewrite the poem for homework.
- Review basic math fact rules and discuss ways to help us add, subtract and multiply more easily.
- We will continue to read the story Seal Surfer Pg. 51-55 together.
- Students will add to the list of characters in the story in their notebook. Students will make a list of comparisons to Ben and the Young Seal.
- We will also pause every few pages to practice summarizing what we have read.

- Students will use the words this week in Flipgrid to record your words. Show the word on a sheet of paper. Draw a picture of the word.

- We will read the rules about pronouns and verbs on Pg. 216-217. The students will learn that when the subject is plural you add an -s to the end of the verb. When the word is singular you don't add an -s to the verb.
- Students will practice this with several sentences on Pg. 217. They will complete the writing activity for homework.
- We will review yesterday's summary for Pg. 55 with each other.
- We will finish reading the story and complete the summaries for each section.
- Students will use WB Pg. 24 to compare the two noticing how they are alike and different.

Spelling/Vocab.
- Students will complete the pretest for our new set of words.
- Afterwards, students will write each misspelled word 5x's each.
- We will separate the words by common spelling patterns together. Students will add additional words to the list of words - following spelling patterns.
- Lastly, we will work on definitions for each word.
- Today we will practice using quotation marks. We will discuss when people would use quotation marks. I will remind students that we should not only use quotes but also other sentences to make our writing interesting. We will talk about when we would use quotation marks, punctuation marks and commas.
- Students will practice together and will rewrite sentences correctly on Pg. 194 #'s 1-13 while using whiteboards.
- Afterwards, students will complete #'s 14-20 on their own. Lastly, they will work on writing a conversation. Each student will imagine that they have become your favorite story character for the day. The students will write a conversation between the character and another person. Use quotation marks to show when a new person speaks.

- Students will continue to work on Spelling Slides. The goal is to have the first 15 words completed. Students should work together to study the words and the meaning of the words with classmates.
- Today we will work on commas in a series. Students will learn that when you list 3 words or more in a sentence this list is called a series.
- Students will work in small groups to write sentences listing things. The first set of things listed will be a list of things that they will bring on a vacation focusing in on what they would pack in their suitcase. The second list will be things they find in the classroom focusing on what you would find in their desk. The last list will be things they think our custodian Mr. Panora would have in his closet. Students will write these lists in their notebook.
- Lastly, they will complete #'s 1-18 EVEN ONLY in their notebook to practice what they know about comma series.

- Students will work on creating posters for vocabulary using all of the words this week. They will create a movie poster for The Garden of Abdul Gasazi. They should use at least 5 of the 6 words (awesome, convinced, disappeared, discovered, incredible, impossible).
- We will practice the Spelling words this week. They will have a test tomorrow on these words.
- Students will learn about the four kinds of sentences: Imperative (command) that ends with a period, declarative (a statement) that ends with a period, exclamatory (something that shows excitement) that ends with an exclamation point and , interrogative (a question) that ends with a period. Students will write 4 sentences to show each type of sentence. They will share the sentences with their classmates without end punctuation marks (no periods, exclamation points or question marks) and we will share what we think the correct answer is for the end punctuation.
- Students will complete Pg. 178-179 #'s 1-18 in their notebook for homework.

- Students will study for the final Spelling test today. Students who are at home will take the test when they return to school.
- Study the definitions for the vocabulary words. If you have not finished the movie poster using the vocab. words, continue working on that today.

- Students will work in partners to write a journal entry (this is like writing a diary entry). They will use days of the week, holidays, family members, pets and months in the journal entry. I will project these in front of the class and we will be focusing on proper nouns, end punctuation marks and capitalization in the beginning of the paragraph. We will correct them together.
- Students will finish Pg. 182 #'s 1-20 in their ELA notebook to practice the strategy.

- Students will complete Pg. 184-185 #'s 1-20 in their notebook.
- We will make a prediction about what the book will be about by looking at the cover. Students will write the prediction in their notebook and share it with a partner.

Spelling/Vocab.
- Students will complete the Spelling pretest for The Garden of Abdul Gasazi. Students who are at home can look over the list of new words and practice writing each word 5 times using WB Pg. 223.
- Students will copy these words in their Spelling/Vocab. notebook or looseleaf skipping 3 lines between each: convinced, disappeared, impossible, awesome, discovered, incredible. Afterwards use Pg. 348-349 to figure out the meaning of the words using context clues (look around, within and beyond the word to find out its meaning). Students may check their definitions using the Reading glossary or the a dictionary.
- Students will learn how to write a personal letter. We will read through Pg. 282 - 284 together. As we do, the students will practice writing in their ELA notebook.
- Finally, we will write letters to members of our community for CSW to celebrate all that they do to keep us safe, look out for us and help others.
- Students will take the final test for The Raising Dragons. Students who are not in school will take this test when they return to school.
- Students will read the first part of The Garden of Abdul Gasazi together, Pg. 350-359. As we read, after each page, students will write down what part of the story is confusing. They will reread or read ahead to try to clarify the confusing parts along the way.

Spelling/Vocab.
As we did not finish this on Monday . . .
- Students will confirm the meaning of the words that we wrote down on Monday using Pg. 348-349 to figure out the meaning of the words using context clues (look around, within and beyond the word to find out its meaning). Students may check their definitions using the Reading glossary or the a dictionary.
- Students will complete WB Pg. 187 to practice using these definitions.
- The spelling words this week are homophones which means they have different spelling and meanings but they sound the same.
- Students will sort the homophones on Pg. 193 and will complete WB Pg. 194 using the definitions we discussed on Monday.
- For students at home, you can look up the Spelling words (you can find them on Pg. 223) in the dictionary to help you understand the different meanings for these words.
- Students will learned skills to write letters to inviduals from the community, the priests and parents for CSW.
- Students will use keyboarding skills to type the letters accurately.
- Students at home you can write a letter to your parents thanking them to sending you to a Catholic school. Make sure you share 3 things that you learned or love about our school and also include a thank you for all that they sacrifice (which means give up) for you to attend school at St. John Vianney.

- Students will read the The Garden of Abdul Gasazi together. As we read, after each page, students will write down what part of the story is confusing. They will reread or read ahead to try to clarify the confusing parts along the way.
- As they read, we will complete the Story Map on Pg. 188 focusing on the key parts of the story. Students should write down the characters (who is in the story), the setting (where the story takes place and when), the problem (what happens in the story that causes an issue for the main character), the resolution (what happens in the story to solve the problem for the main character) and the conclusion (how the story ends).
- Lastly, students will complete WB Pg. 189. On this page they should complete each sentence with an event from the story. They should explain how they feel about how the story ends at the bottom of the page.
- Students will work on iReady - Make sure you complete "Understand Literal and NonLiteral Language"
- We are staring a new unit "Using Place Value to Add" using iReady Lesson 9 Pg. 80-83. We will go over these togther.

- Students will put the final touches on the letters from yesterday. They will double check spelling and punctuation in their letters to their parents. They will make sure they included reasons why they love going to school at St. John Vianney School. Remember to include adjectives, adverbs, figurative language and magic 3's - like "Being at St. John Vianney is challenging, exciting and terrific" - you used 3 examples in your sentence. We will print and decorate the letters to give to our parents.
- Students will work to come up with movements - Total Physical Response- for the vocabulary words to help remember the meaning.
- Complete WB Pg. 194-195 to practice using the Homophones correctly.
- Students will listen to the story read aloud and will follow along in their book. Afterwards, students will complete any outstanding WB pages from yesterday. Students will answer questions about the book as we reread like:
- What do you think Miss Hester thinks about Fritz? How do you know?
- Why did we learn about the detail about Alan's hat?

- Students will complete the Spelling pretest for Raising Dragons. Students who are at home can look over the list of new words and practice writing each word 5 times.
- Students will copy these words in their Spelling/Vocab. notebook or looseleaf skipping 3 lines between each: appetite, chores, havested, hitched, plow, sown, tended. Afterwards use Pg. 316-317 to figure out the meaning of the words using context clues (look around, within and beyond the word to find out its meaning). Students may check their definitions using the Reading glossary or the a dictionary.
- Students will complete the unit checkup on Pg. 162 and 163. Students should write their answers in their notebook.
- Students will discuss what it means to make predictions - to think about what might happen next in a story based on the information we have gathered.

- Use context clues from Pg. 262-263 in your Reading book, your glossary and/or a dictionary to find the meaning of these words.
- Use Pg. 142-143. Go over the rules for adjectives and then practice them using the Try It Out sentneces on Pg. 142. The answers are 1) smoky, 2) black, 3) tall, 4)empty, 5) angry, 6)thick, 7)tired.
